Stay, David Day.

Dig,

Kudos to David Day for his exit polls, especially this week's loop (Exit Polls, 4.9.08). Don't let him go.

Also, it's nice to see more investigative work back in the Dig (other than Media Farm and News to Us), as there was when I first found a copy of the Dig 10 years ago in Brookline. But these reports ideally would diverge from the readily available corporate lauding such as who's marketing what and how with the Sox, and lean toward criticism of injustice, greed, corruption, yadda yadda.

Best,

BILL

We're educational!

Hey Tak,

I liked your "Asians in the military" comic strip (Secret Asian Man, 4.2.08). I sent it to one of my professors and she loved it. We had just finished talking about anti-Japanese WWII propaganda, so she showed it to my American Military Culture class. The reactions were mixed. I think some got the message but, judging from the silence, most were uncomfortable or not used to viewing race issues, especially the non-African American variety. I think the conservative bias of many of my classmates makes it hard for my professor to get her message across. In any case, your strips are always great and I always enjoy reading them.

Our bad.

Dear Dig,

You incorrectly referred to Jordan Hall as being part of Northeastern University (News to Us, 4.9.08). Jordan Hall is the main performance venue of the New England Conservatory of Music, which has no connection to Northeastern University.

Thanks.

The Pink Hat Brigade strikes back.

It must be spring, as the Dig's annual round of hating female sports fans has begun (Feature, 4.9.08).

I loved the Sox long before they were world champions. I loved them when Mookie Wilson hit to an injured first baseman and broke our hearts, through decades of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and when the team finally acknowledged its female fans, manufacturing merchandise designed to fit women. Buying a pink hat didn't make me forget how infield flies and balks work to make room in my tiny female brain for vapid appreciation of Jason Varitek's (admittedly fine) ass.

If the Dig must attack idiotic bandwagon non-fans, why not mention legions of beer-swilling frat boys wearing "Jeter Swallows" T-shirts?

Errata

The Dan Shea piece (Fidelity, 4.9.08) credited to Jonathan Donaldson, was actually written by Joe Bernardi. We apologize for the error; we were distracted by Jonathan Donaldson's name. Try saying it three times fast.

Night Two of Pageantry

By CaraBayles on Wed, Aug 27, 2008 2:48 pm

On Monday night, your trusty Dig reporter was relegated to the press gallery, and spent an hour and a half trying to find the damn booth for rotating floor credentials, being sent up and down the stairs, getting a different answer from every DNCC staffer. It made my thighs slightly stronger and the ball of rage in my stomach significantly heavier. It made me wonder how the Dems would run a country, when they can't credential a reporter. But last night I found the magic booth and got onto the floor, so all is forgiven.

Bus Full of PUMAs

Yesterday, I was buying a drink at the gas station, when a woman asked the clerk for directions. I told her I could direct her, since I was headed that way.

"Where's your car?" she asked.

"I'm walking."

The war roomThe war room The Republican Party War Room HQ are in the backside of an office building?? Off Speer Boulevard, with dilapidated cardboard "McCain" signs pointing to the parking lot. But the inside, covered in posters showing a cartoon Barack Obama and the slogan "A Mile High, an Inch Deep," and "Not Ready 08," along with huge American flags flanking the main desk.
