Long live analog!

Dear Dig,

I was glad to see your tribute to Polaroid (Dig This, 3.5.08), however, there is some consolation that you guys didn't mention. Although Polaroid factories are closing, they have expressed interest in licensing their technology to a third party who would then produce film for use in Polaroid cameras. Not all is lost!

Shmeduacate us.

Dear MCAS-Loving Bean Counter,

You erred in your count giving Montessori Public Schools (Bean Counter, 2.20.08) in Boston in 2009 a Minus 1. Should have been a Plus 17! I'm pretty sure that 7 beans +10 beans = 17 beans no matter how you learned to add 'em up.

A Montessori education opens different pathways in kids' brains, making them into great thinkers.

Here's a list of a few people who have benefited from a Montessori education:

Sergey Brin - Co-Founder of Google

Jimmy Wales - Founder of Wikipedia

Jeffery Bezos - Founder of Amazon.com

Katherine Graham - Owner/Editor, Washington Post

Sean Combs - Mega Rapper

Gabriel Garcia Marquez - Nobel Prize for Literature

T. Berry Brazelton - Pediatrician/Author

Julia Child - Food Goddess

Will Wright - Designer of the Sims

Helen Hunt - Actress

George Clooney - Actor

Oh yeah, and Alexander Graham Bell helped found Montessori in America. I heard he was pretty smart. Didn't he invent something?

It's easy to disparage shit you know nothing about. (The Bean Counter's author went to a Montessori School for 10 years ... which might explain a thing or two—Ed) 'Course that's what the Dig's good at! (That's why I love the Dig!)

Earthy crunchy types love us

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all the vegan-friendly articles in the Dig recently, like the Grezzo review (2.27.08) and the vegan desserts (3.5.08). It's nice to see vegans representing and represented in the Boston area. Veganism often gets bad press or no press at all—thank you so much for making us seem like normal people who enjoy good food.

I have been reading the Dig since I first came to Boston and I love it—especially now that "my people" are in it even more!

Thanks again,

SARAH POULETTE

Errata

Last week's story "The Price of Public Education" was attributed to Laura Magnuson. The actual author was intern-extraordinaire Lauren Magnuson. The sleep-deprived editor responsible was sent to bed early with no dinner and apologizes for the error.

Day #1 at Tales...

By pinklady on Fri, Jul 18, 2008 7:15 pm

Began late with a perfect Pimm's Cup and breakfast at the Napoleon House. YUMMMM...If you've never had a Pimm's Cup do yourself a favor and check this cocktail out, especially if you happen to be in the quarter, near the Napoleon House. We also sampled a Roast Beef Po' Boy, since evidently the deep fried version we had the evening before just wasn't enough for us, and a Muffaletta, which comes portioned as a whole, half, and quarter sandwich. We ordered the quarter size, and it was still as big as my head.

Tales Pre-party

Before dinner MiMi, Em, and I (Pink Lady) head down to the Carousel Bar for Vieux Carres and to meet up with Hanky Panky and Barbara West. The Carousel Bar spins in the center of the room, so to chat with these seated gals, we have to march slowly around the room with them. We're doing the "Carousel Crawl." It looks impossibly silly.
