DEAR READERS
By DAVID DAY
We like to think we go through the birthing process each and every week with our little baby here, which means you're holding the latest newborn. Enjoy it but wipe it down first.
There's a lot going on in the book, as usual, but I'd like to call special attention to my personal bundle of joy, A&E.
High on the list of must-reads is Jenna Scherer's excellent piece on the always heady Harold Pinter. The playwright gets a great preview and I'm happy to get in a line like "You're a fuckpig."
Staff writer Chris Faraone interviews urban legend Lovebug Starski, who fills us in on the problems with rap today and tips us off to a magazine called Cosmology. There was some debate as to whether to italicize the magazine's name, Cosmology, as clearly Starski is joking and/or misled. Let's just say such a conundrum was not solved with the AP Stylebook, which is very much par for the course around here. We chose to leave it.
Elsewhere, we correspond with weirdo rocker Six Organs of Admittance via local weirdo Daniel Lopatin. Those of you who attend droney experimental shows might know Daniel—he is also in noise act Dania Shapes.
Both our Defend Yourself! pieces are a bit left-of-center. One is with two "celebrity DJs," so-called not because they are celebrities, but because they DJ for celebrities (welcome to L.A.). While in arts, Matt Murphy gives us the scoop on why he loves swallowing peckers.
Not to be overlooked: former Bostonian Rob Sheffield talks shop with us, the usual round of CD reviews with indie-primitive masterpieces alongside Steve Aoki, magical DVDs appear and movie dude Dave Wildman sees chomping pussy. Of course, there's still more, from Dig This to Notables; we never seem to miss an opportunity to have an opinion.
Once you've digested our paper (thanks, Moloch), don't forget to drop us a line. Know of any good art galleries? Is your band playing a month from now? Are you not a jam band? You can email us, send us a message on the MySpace webterchange, join our Facebook cyber-group and e-stalk us, or if all else fails, use the "telephone," located inside your texting machine. We have those too.
