Maverick | Blue Line
Be brave, little grasshopper, and follow your gut
By LEIGHANN FARRELLY
Hey you, early adopter, trendsetter, pioneer. To nab a spot on the up-and-up, grab a seat on the Blue Line and soar right across the harbor over to Maverick.
For an unmistakable neighborhood feel, pop by 303 Café [303 Sumner St., East Boston. 617.569.3001. 303cafe.com], an everybody-knows-your-name kind of spot decked out in local Eastie artwork, where John W drinks from their "well-curated beer and wine list." We drink up every type of creative offering when we see 'em!
Need a little south-of-the-border love? Head east to Angela's Café [131 Lexington St., East Boston. 617.567.4972]. Chloe D makes the trek from Jamaica Plain to sample their sangría, but it's the guacamole that's got Dan S, Morgan F and Mia D exclaiming, "¡Aye caramba!" For another cheap and tasty Mexican munchfest, neighborhood newcomer Cactus Mexican Grill [44 Maverick Sq., East Boston. 617.561.2800] totally does it for TJ S.
So what makes East Boston a food lover's magnet? Three words for ya: dough, sauce and cheese. Pizza is done with old-school flair at Santarpio's [111 Chelsea St., East Boston. 617.567.9871. santarpiospizza.com], where large plastic soda cups and rock-bottom prices are part of the charm, as well as their "perfect crust, delicious sauce and bountiful cheese and toppings," raves Beth M.
Modern classics are the M.O. of Dough [20 Maverick St., East Boston. 617.567.8787. doughpizza.com], where creative pie toppings and the tofu Reuben delight Carrie E. Seems Eastie's got a little something for everyone! Mangia, mangia.
