Gratifying gleanings from the Faneuil Hall circus
By LIGAYA TICHY
Let's hit the brick, because—believe it or not—Faneuil Hall plays host to a few local gems.
As you sink into a tufted leather chair with a Cohiba and Scotch in hand, it's surprising how the troubles of the world melt away. Get it on old-man style at Churchill's [40 North St., Boston. 617.227.0750]. Winston G deems it, as one of the few remaining bastions of smoking, "unpretentious, but a very classy place to have a cigar."
Sometimes, though, we simply need booze. Luckily, An Tain [31 India St., Boston. 617.426.1870] delivers. Andrea S declares it a winner on the inebriation-to-cost scale—"Gotta love getting very drunk, getting my tab and it being $7 for the night." Single digits. That's what we're talking about.
While the prices at The Vault [105 Water St., Boston. 617.292.3355. thevaultboston.com] will run a little higher, you may need not worry about the tab. "Ladies," says Heather H, "if you're a single girl working in the Financial District and like suits, this place is like winning the jackpot." Bonus: According to Marguerite W, they've got a bustling happy hour and scrumptious nosh, too.
Vowed to never again go into Quincy Market? Three words to change your mind: MMMac & Cheese [1 Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston. 617.570.9070], people. Jocelyn C's been avoiding the area "like the motherfuckin' plague," but insists that the made-to-order variety at this kiosk is "worth having to walk behind throngs of slow-ass morons in Bermuda shorts with crying babies." Redemption has never tasted gooier.
