Where young designers shop
By MARIE Y. THIBAULT
Sam Mendoza (BU '08)
Mendoza [mendozamendoza.com], JeTom [getjetom.com]
[Available at Stil, 170 Newbury St., Boston. 617.859.7845. stilinc.com]
THEIR CREDENTIALS:
Mendoza began designing in college without formal training. He first created JeTom; most recently, he unveiled Mendoza during this month's Boston Fashion Week. To avoid struggles in the fitting room, he's eliminated zippers from his collections. Explains Mendoza: "Zippers were breaking; women's hearts were breaking."
THE LOOK: The clothing "has to have an effect -- unique and beautiful, like, wow" and look great from any distance.

All three have been designing since high school. (A tutor hired to prepare Isabelle for the boarding school entrance exam agreed to teach her wirework instead -- as long as she didn't tell her father.)
