Behind the Green Door | $10

Beehive [541 Tremont St., South End, Boston. 617.423.0069. beehiveboston.com]

As this lovelorn cocktail is available only until February 15, you'd be best to snatch (dude, the other one) Beehive's creative take on the green fairy: Kübler absinthe with a dash of simple syrup in a champagne flute, topped with sparkling wine and garnished with strawberry. "Behind the Green Door is lovingly named after a very famous porn movie from the '70s," says drink creator and general manager Bertil Jean-Chronberg. "And since absinthe is both a staple of the bohemian artist, and because when consumed properly it will bring about pure love for all, we hope those choosing the drink will find their special love on Valentine's Day behind the door—be it true or merely a hallucination."

Love potion # Pho | $10

Pho Republique [1415 Washington St., South End, Boston. 617.262.0005. phorepublique.net]

What better than the peach to celebrate human fuzzy beauty? Ponder that over the Love Potion (available until the end of the month), where Stolichnaya Peachik, lemon/lime juice and passion fruit syrup are shaken and poured in a glass rimmed (maybe later, baby) with grenadine-dipped sugar and topped with bubbly Sorelle Bronca prosecco. Vincent Conte, resident mixologist at Pho, created the drink to help move along what he feels the holiday is all about: "It's a fun drink, and in the end, it's my job to assist in lowering inhibitions."

Health and Human Services Public Hearing

By Naoko Yoshida on Wed, Sep 10, 2008 12:53 am

“One of the most heart breaking things for me is the great number of homeless veterans,” said Ralph Cooper, executive director of Veterans Benefits Clearinghouse. “As you can tell, I’m getting older and my gray hair tells the truth. You can’t imagine how painful it is for me to talk with men and women who served in Vietnam, men and women who are young, coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq and they are homeless. How disgraceful is that?”
