Darkbuster and Street Dogs at the Roxy

By kiel on Thu, Dec 27, 2007 10:33 am

The Roxy has a little bit of a personality crisis: On the one hand, they're a nightclub, and on the other, a concert venue. That meant the normal concert plan of attack, getting there late to miss the sound check but in time for the concert crush, didn't pan out. They got their shit figured out, Get you in early and get you out early for the nightclubbers. I couldn't imagine a more varied ethnography in one night. Long story short, we missed the first couple of bands with that technique. Taking the time to pregame and get changed out of white collar work clothes (read: douchebag clothes) fucked us over.

Darkbuster was great. With lyrics based around drinking and smoking and partying, they're definitely a band for me. I'd been wanting to see them for a while, and hoping to catch them opening with "We are Darkbuster." But we missed that.  It was good to see the Boston area band though and go out there in support of local music.

I must say, I've never seen so many scally caps in one place before in my life. it was like a hardcore-stained Newsies revival, sportin tattoos and lacking any newspapers. Local legend Tommy Somerville was out in force, making the rounds in a sweater vest. Is he mayor yet?

Street Dogs was good stuff. Mike climbed up on the speakers several times, and at the close of the concert lit himself on fire and jumped into the crowd. I'm just kidding. It was kinda interesting to see a former firefighter startin pyrotechnics in the crowd, directing the mosh pit from the height of the double stage speakers.

Pregaming beforehand as I was, and slammin back the 6 dollar aluminum bottle-cans that Budweiser offers (has anyone figured out how to make a shank out of those yet?), I failed to take good notes on the evening. Some kid outside did tell me a joke I remember simply because it was so overthetop redonkulous, but in light of our recent anti-Semitic accusations, I will refrain from sharing it here.

Anyone got anything to add?

Attention Artists! Stop the Orphan Act!

By weeklydig on Mon, May 5, 2008 12:23 pm

Two bills were submitted to congress at the end of April — one to the House and one to the Senate — called the Orphan Works Act of 2008. Congress is looking to have this act passed and signed into law by George Bush by June 8, 2008, less than two months after it was introduced.

In a nutshell, this act may put many of you creative people in a tight spot when it comes to copyrighting your images and jeopardize long term royalties.
