Vox Op-uli

By hizzoner on Tue, Mar 18, 2008 10:21 am

Answer to ESPN's mindnumbing and unending question: The Boston Globe's Op-Ed Page is more NOW

That popping sound you heard was Derrick Z’s frontal lobe as he saw in black and white the real reason he was told to pare down his NCAA African American graduation-rate column (not because HDS Greenway won the office tourney last year), but rather because room needed to be made for ‘opinion makers’ of our day - like Outraged Liberal, Beantown Bloggery, and “Dan Kennedy.” Opinion is like guns, money, and booze - Just because you have it, doesn’t mean you make it.

While the EMT’s attend to DZJ, there is another sound of slapping that lulls over the sirens. That is the sound of high fives among Boston Now staffers and content contributors who will somehow take this as a victory and validation of their terrible, terrible writing.

The Globe recently introduced On My Mind, which is an interesting if not aimless try at humanizing customers who want to participate. But the Globe took that earnest attempt at humanization and crushed it together with optimization, and then buzzword machine leveraged (read: vomited) on the Op-Ed page. But the joke is on them - it's the day after St. Patrick's and I am nauseous anyway.

Attention Artists! Stop the Orphan Act!

By weeklydig on Mon, May 5, 2008 12:23 pm

Two bills were submitted to congress at the end of April — one to the House and one to the Senate — called the Orphan Works Act of 2008. Congress is looking to have this act passed and signed into law by George Bush by June 8, 2008, less than two months after it was introduced.

In a nutshell, this act may put many of you creative people in a tight spot when it comes to copyrighting your images and jeopardize long term royalties.
