COLLISION COLLECTIVE

Tired of using technology

By John Barera

ART_AxiomLG

Collision Collective, local dramatic manipulators of art and technology, are back with COLLISION01101: superartificial. The show, their 13th, uses 12 new works to explore the lingering role superstition plays in a completely technological world.

John Slepian's Cornered overtly plays to our sympathies and fears while questioning our relationship with nature. An unassuming tree stump serves as home to a simulated shrieking creature, grunting and cowering in fear when approached. Through mechanical simulation Slepian tears down the metaphorical wall separating the real world from the world of the screen.

In Who's That, Tim Murdoch's contribution, mirrors are used as a metaphor for looking into oneself—he creates a slippery reflection that is seemingly detached from the plane. Again the presence of the viewer affects the work, disrupting his mental image. The superstition has been reversed, with the mirror intact, and the viewer shattered.

Hosting the show is the likeminded Axiom Gallery, a collective with an experimental media focus. As both institutions have become reputable for the presentation of technology-based, forward-thinking artwork, the exhibit is a unity of two forces—the fact that it's on display in a MBTA rail station couldn't be more appropriate.

RIP PRECESSION HELLO UNFLATION

By dayvidday on Mon, Dec 1, 2008 1:42 pm

OMG! It's official! For a few months now, we've been onto the idea of a "precession," a span of time wherein the economic powers that be flatly refuse to call anything a "recession." We assumed this had something to do with Dick Cheney's political whopper and pressure to not to claim the recession started with Bush.

Actual Citibank Term Sheet

By JStanton on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 3:04 pm

From Dealbreaker, what is reportedly the actual term sheet for the Citibank bailout.

FWIW, to my reading we're kinda screwing them, which is A-OK in my book
