It's one thing to make music, but it's another to make music on a mission. Hot Molasses brings folk home in their Molassachusetts EP, an homage to one of our most famous historical events: 1919's Molasses Flood. Teaming up with other bands and organizations, including Roxbury's Alternatives for Community and Environment, Hot Molasses lives by teamwork in both ideology and sound. Molassachusetts does all of these things with a twang. Adding unconventional extras on top of traditional folk guitar melodies, Hot Molasses creates a pleasantly surprising tune that's comfortably familiar. Only 15 minutes long, the EP takes the time to test the waters before diving headfirst into a universe filled with the beauty of local heroes and magical mishaps. It's easy to imagine the world as it should be while listening to the EP. One taste and we'll all want the sweet but sassy serenity of Hot Molasses.

RJD2 got his start DJing for Columbus rap group MHz in the '90s, but is better known for his solo work, beginning with Your Face or Your Kneecaps in 2001, and hitting his stride with widely acclaimed 2002 release Deadringer.
