In 2009, the Souls released one downloadable song a month and a 7-inch every four months. Many career punks have been following a similar path to avoid creative stagnation. The pattern of writing, recording, producing and then touring can get tiresome. They've also returned to their DIY roots with their own label: Chunksaah. The opening tracks are laced with metaphors of feeling lost, but just when I fear Bush's great depression has claimed the band's spirits, they blast into a song entitled "Badass." It's a fast, cathartic release of shouting out their favorite badass things from "snakes" to "ShamWow." It's a turning point, as the following tracks pop with the optimistic tone the Souls have perfected. Greg Attonito's voice swings through with renewed passion. The album rolls through with a fresh take; they're creating a new blend of material on this album, showing their abilities of longevity. Twenty years of punk and they don't look to be done just yet. Being on their own again has allowed them to even further expound on the Souls' sound.
