Oh my darkness. Cober (aka Sheila Bommakanti) has now released four solo albums, and each one seems to be murkier than the last. And that's not a bad thing. On Cutter, she seems to be reflecting our dire times back onto us for an extra look. The one-woman project features nothing more than a twin-neck guitar and a stack of amplifiers, but on tracks like "Cutter," she plays with backward tape-loops, as her voice floats in and out—as if in a dream—and "No. 8" features a (gasp!) acoustic guitar. It's simple ... and simply delightful.
