Used to be, you could hate on Berlin for being too elite, too chic, too much. The dance music is minimal, too cold and too, well, German. These days, everyone has given up and given in—Berlin is the most creative music metropolis of the haughty naughties. Enter Onur Özer, who immigrated to the capital city after dominating Istanbul's developing dance scene. He lands at Berlin's most famous club, Watergate (known for its entire wall of LED lights), and proceeds to release his debut mix on their new label. From the breathy seduction of Cassy's "April" to his own "Terpsichorean Echoes," the mix is so deadly it could be bottled as insect spray. And when he loosens Patrice Bäumel's "The Roar," it sounds like someone has snapped an operating weed-whacker in half and thrown it onto the dancefloor. Someone help, Berlinism is turning into a debilitative addiction.

Copeland/ I Can Make A Mess at Middle East 3/6/10

The Middle East is a great venue when it's kind of full--but it can be a mess when it's completely sold out.
