Already on the USS Santogold poopdeck: Bad Brains, Diplo, M.I.A., Sinden, Switch and Spank Rock. That impressive crew all believe Santogold (or Santi White to the Feds) will be big-time. Of course, being that she hasn't been on Real World 4,213 or slept with John "I supermanned the corpse of Curtis Mayfield" Mayer, the big-time is unlikely. She will likely hit the charts in nearly every European country, Mexico and South America, pockets of Asia and some of Africa. Rolling Stone Australia will make her artist of the year. Rolling Stone US will call her an "Artist to Watch" and forget she exists. Singles like the tremendously anthemic "Shove It" ("Shove your hope / Where it don't shine") pull the breath out of your chest but won't make it out of the college radio ghetto. OK, maybe if she takes a cell-phone picture of her coochy and sends it to Perez Hilton. Like I say, unlikely.

Attention Artists! Stop the Orphan Act!

By weeklydig on Mon, May 5, 2008 12:23 pm

Two bills were submitted to congress at the end of April — one to the House and one to the Senate — called the Orphan Works Act of 2008. Congress is looking to have this act passed and signed into law by George Bush by June 8, 2008, less than two months after it was introduced.

In a nutshell, this act may put many of you creative people in a tight spot when it comes to copyrighting your images and jeopardize long term royalties.
