These nerd-rock gods glorify being the screw-up in high school. They sympathize finding all the gifts you gave your ex-lover in a garage sale. Every memory you shared with that wench? They're now worth 25 cents. The idea of buying a bright orange backpack to distinguish thyself from other bandmates: hyper-anal, practical and hilarious. Lusty Debbie Gibson's "Electric Youth" never sounded as good on cassette as crusty Nerf Herder's "Led Zeppelin Rules" does here Parry Gripp's dejected optimist tone rings ready to sing along with. Let's call it geek-sheen.

Cold rain couldn't douse MIT's recent Senior House Steer Roast, the infamous two-day dorm barbecue with mud wrestling, bands, and tons of all-night-roasted beef roasted overnight. The annual event is open to members of the MIT community and guests, but not necessarily to the press, so we (yes, the royal we) went as a party-loving citizen.
