Ellen Allien is at the forefront of a movement in DJ culture where estrogen is nearly as prevalent as ecstasy. DJs like Miss Kittin in Germany, Heidi in London, Chloe in France and Allien everywhere are proving enameled fingernails can spin wax just as easily as ones chewed to bits. This mix, the latest in the "Boogy Bytes" series for her own record label, BPitch Control, is a stunner. Allien has long promoted a more electro- or breaks-friendly sound, replete with tazered vocals and heavy boom, but here, she goes straight for the minimal heart, with wobbling basslines and clipped high-end melodies. Once she puts the hammer down, somewhere in the gap between track six and seven, it's off to the races. Naturally, for a DJ as supernatural as Allien, she has access to some obscure talents who just kick major ass. It leads one to believe that someday we'll all be DJs and we'll play our friends' music. 2012, perhaps?

Rothbury Music Festival: Post 1

I wish I could say I saw a couple more cities on my way to Rothbury, Michigan. We—Spencer, Mills, Maysa, Keith and myself—drove from Allston to Michigan in about 17 hours, passing through Cleveland, Detroit, Lansing and a couple other places along the way. After making it through a 20-hour bus ride in Argentina a few years ago, I've learned to appreciate all the things you see along the way during a road trip that you miss on a plane.

Fuck Michael Jackson

The guy could dance, hooked up with a couple of good producers, diddled little kids (allegedly, yeah right), and is now dead. Good riddance.

Dear, dear Governor Sanford

When apologizing publically to your wife and constituents, here's a rough list of things you should probably avoid mentioning:

1. Your experience, even that which falls within your college years, of working across national borders without a work visa. This goes double for high-ranking, GOP president-hopefuls.

2. That you were exhausted by your own efforts to turn down federal stimulus money.
