THE LOVE BOAT: SEASON ONE, VOLUME TWO
PRIME-TIME SWINGER TELEVISION
By BRENT T. INGRAM
We get the weirdest DVDs at the Dig. Like this one. First off, where was Volume One? Second of all, who are these people? Guest stars include Barbi Benton, Adrienne Barbeau, Jim Backus, Robert Mandan, Georgia Engel ... anyone? Also, do people really have fun on cruises, or do they just get seasick and claustrophobic and then search for a way to get off the disease-ridden, floating city of STDs? Oh, that's right. This is pre-AIDS adult humor, rife with cheeky double-entendres and token black guy send-ups. Probably most relevant to us are episode 17, "The Congressman was Indiscreet," and the 1978 broadcast of "Computerman." All told, most of our audience would find this series a time warp, enjoyable only for the novelty of seeing what people watched on Saturday night when there were just three channels and no home video. That is: droll, innuendo-laden, cruise-ship dramedies.
