DEFEND YOURSELF!

RICK RO$$

By Isabelle Davis

In 2006, Rick Ro$$ (born William Roberts) let us know just how much hustled (Every day—Ed.), and just like that he became an overnight sensation, albeit over a decade in the making. No longer was he the ghostwriter behind many hip-hop hits on Slip-N-Slide and beyond, but was now a bona fide Def Jam star, repping the land of Luke. Look for the behemoth of a man on tour this spring in support of his March release, Trilla.

SO I KNOW IT'S CALLED TRILLA, AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS, BUT SOME PEOPLE USE THAT WORD NOT IN THE SENSE THAT YOU USE IT, AS IN "I'M TRILLA, I'M REAL, I'M TRUE," BUT THEY USE IT TO DESCRIBE A REALLY, REALLY FAT WOMAN. DID YOU KNOW THAT?

A who?

A REALLY OVERWEIGHT WOMAN.

I don't believe that.

YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT?

Hell, it doesn't make sense. Like who would say that? Wow, she's Trilla?

THE NAME THAT YOU TOOK, RICK RO$$. AM I CORRECT IN SAYING YOU NAMED YOURSELF AFTER "FREEWAY" RICK ROSS? THE L.A. (DRUG) KINGPIN?

I'm not gonna say directly after, but he does have the same name.

(very uncomfortable silence)

I SEE. I REALLY LIKE YOUR TATTOOS. I WAS WONDERING HOW MANY YOU HAD.

Like around 80.

WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE?

My triple-C tat with my zipcode.

DID YOU GHOSTWRITE FOR PEOPLE ON SLIP-N-SLIDE OR FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN FLORIDA?

For people everywhere.

CAN YOU GIVE ONE? OR ARE YOUR LIPS SEALED?

Nah, I gotta keep those checks rollin'.

Getting into (and thrown out of) the MIT Steer Roast

By djdreilinger on Thu, May 29, 2008 4:01 pm

Cold rain couldn't douse MIT's recent Senior House Steer Roast, the infamous two-day dorm barbecue with mud wrestling, bands, and tons of all-night-roasted beef roasted overnight. The annual event is open to members of the MIT community and guests, but not necessarily to the press, so we (yes, the royal we) went as a party-loving citizen.
