DAVID WILDMAN, AUTHOR OF THE BOOK OF ENEMY

By DAVID WILDMAN

David Wildman, who in his long tenure at this publication leveled insults and intimidation at many an earnest artist in these "Defend Yourself!" columns, is now pointing the weapon at himself. He will be reading from his novel, The Book of Enemy, an online hypertext work, at Axiom Gallery this Friday. It's about a small-time reporter who joins a Berkshires mind reading cult called Engine.

I HEARD YOU WILL WEAR A HOODED RED ROBE LIKE ONE OF THE CULT MEMBERS FOR THIS READING. SOUNDS PRETTY FRUITY.

It's tough getting attention for literary works. I actually got a rave review from Chuck Palahniuk, but I've had trouble getting agents to bite. So I'm making a spectacle out of it.

SO WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? BESTIALITY? NECROPHILIA? CORN DOGS?

A multimedia presentation. Some of the story happens in blogs on various websites, sort of like literary graffiti, and there will be monitors linked to that, as well as various videos people put up on YouTube and art by local artists. There will also be refreshments, free beer and free T-shirts with the Engine logo.

WHAT'S WITH THIS CULT STUFF? WERE YOU DROPPED ON YOUR HEAD OR SOMETHING?

You should know better than anyone. Engine believes that Earth is a conscious being that created humanity for its own purposes thousands of years ago and has been trying to kill us ever since. It's all chronicled in Engine's version of the Quran, the Book of Enemy, which reveals the little-known events that happened in the years between the period of Genesis and the Great Flood. And it's all on the website: TheBookOfEnemy.com.

SERIOUSLY, YOU NEED HELP.

Yes, I need lots of people to come out to the reading and have a great time. Did I mention there will be free beer? But no Kool-Aid.

ROTHBURY FESTIVAL POST 2

By caballero on Sat, Jul 4, 2009 9:41 pm

The anticipation behind the opening notes of an STS9 set has to be seen to be believed. The crowd is literally bubbling with energy, mostly directing it towards keeping the entire zoo of inflatable animals afloat on the surface of an ocean of people. Set against the backdrop of Sherwood Forest, the wooded area that separates the Ranch Arena from the two bigger stages, this is the Rothbury Festival's chance to show off the expensive lights which your $280 ticket presumably helped pay for.

Rothbury Music Festival: Post 1

I wish I could say I saw a couple more cities on my way to Rothbury, Michigan. We—Spencer, Mills, Maysa, Keith and myself—drove from Allston to Michigan in about 17 hours, passing through Cleveland, Detroit, Lansing and a couple other places along the way. After making it through a 20-hour bus ride in Argentina a few years ago, I've learned to appreciate all the things you see along the way during a road trip that you miss on a plane.

Fuck Michael Jackson

The guy could dance, hooked up with a couple of good producers, diddled little kids (allegedly, yeah right), and is now dead. Good riddance.
