LAB BOSTON
By JAMIE GRANOFF
PPP is psychedelic art, graffiti style and a whole bunch of estrogen. Illustration artist Shayna Yasuhara (also known as Shayna Shenanigans), co-founder of the series, aims to trigger a new artistic movement: a movement grounded in the female perspective. "It had to be done," says Yasuhara. "The idea had been there, burning a hole in the back of my mind for a long time. It was kind of haunting me, like in that baseball movie where the voice kept telling Kevin Costner, 'If you build it, they will come, if you build it, they will come,' but instead of it being Kevin Costner, it was me, and I knew I had everything I needed—interested artists, supportive venues and people that want to go out." Now, with the help of PPP co-founder Kim Harris, also co-owner of LAB Boston, the second installment of this series will take place. Alongside co-founders Tasuhara and Harris, five new artists will be featured: Ali Horeanopoulos, Ashley B. Clark, Genie B., Silver Oris and tofuquirrel. Together, they showcase their individual inspirations through different artistic mediums. Piling onto this femfest is longtime Boston Breaks resident DJ Kares, and what all ladies love: gift bags. If only we had some shoes to throw into the mix, it'd be like wheaven.
