HOLIDAY 2009

The original Red Steel was poorly received for its clunky gameplay and drool-inducing storyline. It was supposed to be a sword-fighting game, but you'd spend most of your time shooting stuff with your character's pistol. One of the problems with the original game was that the Nintendo Wii's motion-capture technology just wasn't equipped for a real sword-swinging game. Now, with the Wii MotionPlus accessory, Red Steel 2 comes along and is ready to give gamers some serious excitement. Playing through a demo level at E3, the first thing I noticed was that you really have to swing your arms around. You can't just flick your wrist and cheat like older Wii games. Stand up, get off your ass and swing your sword, people. The game takes place in a weird Wild West setting where you play a sort of cowboy samurai. The Wii MotionPlus provides excellent visual tracking, letting you parry and block attacks while prepared to strike a deadly blow. But, sadly, this isn't a bloody, violent game. Sure, you kill people, but there's no blood or severed limbs. It's focused on the gameplay and story, and not on slicing dudes' heads off.

The Middle East is a great venue when it's kind of full--but it can be a mess when it's completely sold out.

Surfer Blood & Turbo Fruits

By ioncrash on Mon, Mar 8, 2010 5:26 pm None-too-shockingly, Jonas Stein of Turbo Fruits (formerly of Be YourOwn Pet) turns out to be a pretty chill guy. After all, the dude’s written more songs about weed than I care to list right now.
