HARMONIX/MTV GAMES

9.9.09

This will simply be the biggest game of the year. Cambridge-based Harmonix worked closely with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, the widows of Beatles members John Lennon and George Harrison, to assemble an amazing title featuring dozens of hit songs and virtual likenesses of the Fab Four. They even rendered original venues like Liverpool's The Cavern and the legendary recording studio Abbey Road. The game will launch with 45 songs, but Harmonix announced recently that they will quickly begin to release full albums for download into the game, starting with Abbey Road, shortly after the game's release this fall. This isn't just another music game. The Beatles defined a sound that transcends the boundary between young and old. This could finally be the game that parents play with their kids. The game even features three-person vocal parts, letting up to seven people play, or your guitar and bass players can sing along, re-creating the real Beatles vocal harmony. We're talking about a new level of addiction here. I've still got "Taxman" and "Here Comes the Sun" stuck in my head.

The Middle East is a great venue when it's kind of full--but it can be a mess when it's completely sold out.
