Enter his world, but don't touch the Cheetos

I've heard New England's beautiful in the summer. I wouldn't know; I never go outside anymore. Who wants to deal with the bugs, the people and the sunshine? I'll be wasting those nice summer days ensconced in a comfy chair, enjoying the leisure of top-notch video games.

You can keep your Ladder Golf and water sports, thank you very much.

The flood of big releases rains down this week, as newfangled versions of NES classics Punch-Out!! [5.19.09, Nintendo, Wii] and Bionic Commando [5.19.09, Capcom, 360/PS3] arrive to satisfy your boxing and swinging needs. Be a superhero or villain in Sony's much-touted and morally flexible sandbox brawler, inFAMOUS [5.26.09, Sony, PS3], or in the somewhat similar Prototype [6.9.09, Activision, 360/PS3]. Also in early June, rock out on the road without those pesky instruments with Rock Band: Unplugged [6.9.09, EA, PSP]. Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson return to their most successful film with Ghostbusters: The Game [6.16.09, Atari, Wii/360/PS3/DS/PSP], featuring a genuine script from Aykroyd and Ramis. Recycled hits from the first few Guitar Hero titles get a full-band workover in Guitar Hero: Smash Hits [6.16.09, Activision, Wii/360/PS3/PS2], while instead of a standard controller, Let's Tap [6.16.09, Sega, Wii] is played with a cardboard box and a sturdy finger or two.

Make like Sauron's more badass cousin with Overlord II [6.23.09, Codemasters, 360/PS3], or Overlord: Dark Legend [6.23.09, Codemasters, Wii], the sequel and spinoff to 2007's comically evil strategy game. The Conduit [6.23.09, Sega, Wii] brings serious first-person shooter action to the Wii, with unusually great graphics and pristine controls. If early raves are any indication, Japanese simulation/RPG Little King's Story [6.23.09, XSEEDS/Marvelous, Wii] could become a cult classic. First-person shooter Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood [6.30.09, Ubisoft, 360/PS3] draws first in the showdown between Western-themed titles, getting the drop a good three months before Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. Killing Hitler never gets old, as Wolfenstein [7.26.09, Activision, 360/PS3] proves, remaking the early '90s 3-D remake of the '80s Apple classic. Finally, Nintendo's MotionPlus adapter brings true one-to-one motion controls to the Wii, just in time for Wii Sports sequel Wii Sports Resort [7.26.09, Nintendo, Wii].

See you on the couch.

Homeless in Boston

By weeklydig on Fri, Feb 5, 2010 3:50 pm

Our office is directly across from the Pine Street Inn so we have our fair share of homeless wanderers in the neighborhood. Occasionally they come into our building and hang out on the stairs or even, like just the other day, come into our office and move into our bathroom. It's worst when it's really cold and I always feel torn about booting these folks. Life must be hard enough. But at the some time...get the hell out of my office! What would you do?

Please note: This is written by our beloved Art Director, who will be blogging from Sundance this week. (I'm just the copy and pasting monkey.) -CB

I never expected to end up volunteerig at the Sundance film festival. I wanted to do it, but life always seems to come up. Well, here I am, six days into the fest, finally reporting to the beloved Dig readers.
