EAT LEAD: THE RETURN OF MATT HAZARD

Wait, an intentional B-movie of a game about a Will Arnett-voiced '80s video game character making a comeback in a modern-day FPS and attaining ultimate self-awareness of his status as a fictional character? Packed full of meta jokes and knowing clichés, and with Neil Patrick Harris as the villain? Yes, this certainly is a game, and I want to play it. Or wanted to play it, until I did, when I suddenly kinda wished maybe I hadn't. OK, no, everyone who's stupid about gaming or Arnett should give this the weakest of shots, as the intro and first few minutes are genuinely smart and funny. Then the actual game kicks in, and it's a total drag: a sub-par shooter with clunky controls, horrible AI and repetitive level design. Arnett's constant wisecracks about Eat Lead's artificiality and mediocrity don't excuse the game's failures.
