RYGAR: THE BATTLE OF ARGUS

By GARRETT MARTIN

DTT_1108RygarLG

NINTENDO WII

TECMO

2.3.09

Rygar was a fascinating and infamously hard Nintendo game back in the '80s. Then it became a solid early-aughts, 3-D thingamabob on the PlayStation 2. Now that version has been slightly rejiggered for the Wii. It's a bummer that Tecmo didn't update the '02 version more than they did, and that the motion controls barely factor into a game predicated upon whip-cracking. Despite its awkwardness, though, Rygar's still not an entirely unwelcome release. There are very few quality action games on the Wii; Rygar's quality is highly debatable, but if you can look past the outdated visuals, the horrible voice-acting and the nondescript story, you'll find an entirely mindless but reasonably enjoyable action romp in the mold of Castlevania or Devil May Cry.

The Middle East is a great venue when it's kind of full--but it can be a mess when it's completely sold out.
